SKATEBASED DESIGN — static mirror

A static copy of www.skatebaseddesign.com (Squarespace site skatebaseddesign.squarespace.com), taken 2026-10-05 before the plan expires.

Folder What it is
docs/ The published site. Same URL paths as Squarespace (/info is docs/info/index.html). GitHub Pages serves this folder.
originals/ Every image at the full resolution Squarespace stored (52 files; Squarespace caps uploads at 2500 px).
_raw/ The snapshot the site is built from: sitemap.xml, each page’s rendered HTML and its ?format=json content.
src/ mirror.js and mirror.css: small replacements for the Squarespace scripts the pages relied on.
build.py Rebuilds docs/ from _raw/ and originals/. Run python3 build.py.

How it was made

  1. Every page listed in /sitemap.xml (25 URLs, plus the homepage) was fetched twice: as rendered HTML and as ?format=json.
  2. Every image referenced in the sitemap, the JSON or the HTML was downloaded at original size, without Squarespace’s ?format= resizing. The site serves copies that are at most 1500 px wide (the size Squarespace served); the untouched originals are in originals/.
  3. Squarespace’s own markup and stylesheets were kept, so the layout, fonts and colours match. All of Squarespace’s runtime JavaScript was removed. The few behaviours it provided are rebuilt in src/mirror.js: the “you are loved” / “ARCHIVE ☆” wave marquees, the INFO accordion, the mobile menu, and the product image galleries.
  4. Stylesheets, fonts (Archivo and Climate Crisis), the icon sprite and jQuery are saved in docs/assets/. No page loads anything from Squarespace.

The page content comes from the rendered HTML, not from ?format=json. Squarespace’s newer “Fluid Engine” pages leave mainContent empty in the JSON, so the JSON was kept as a record of the content (and the product data), and the HTML was used to build the pages.

Pages

All 26 pages were copied. The three in the navigation are ARCHIVE (/), SHOP (/shop) and INFO (/info). These pages are public but were not linked from the navigation, and they stay unlinked here: /archive (same as the homepage), /sophie-schmidt-map, /contract-clarified, /news-ribbon, /senate, /fashion, /fashion-designer-1 (empty on Squarespace too).

Squarespace features that only ran on Squarespace

Embedded media: none. The site had no video, audio or PDF embeds; only images.

Things that still depend on outside services

These belong to the site’s own custom code, not to Squarespace, and keep working as long as those services do:

Rebuilding

python3 build.py

build.py needs only Python 3 and macOS sips (for resizing). Remote assets are cached in _raw/cache/, so rebuilding does not need the Squarespace site to be online once the cache exists.
